About Us

We are an ELCA Lutheran Church centered in the Grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ.

The people of Olivet seek to live like we believe it, that we’re changed and set on a path to share this love with the world. We’re not perfect. Each of us carries a burden of brokenness in some way, shape or form. We make mistakes, we sin. Grace means this does not exclude us from God’s Love. Jesus forgives us, heals us, dusts us off, and sets us back on a new path each and every day. Our lives are lived in gratitude for this Gift.

Our Mission

Build a vital community of believers within which each person is nurtured, supported, and strengthened in Christian faith through worship, education, and fellowship.

Challenge believers to share with others the Good News of God’s love and salvation, as revealed in Jesus Christ.

Send people forth from worship in service to others in our community and beyond who are in pain or in any kind of need.

Our History

Founded in 1922, Olivet has gone through many updates and changes transforming it into the community of believers it is today.

The original Olivet was organized in 1921 as “Trinity English Church”, later known as Olivet English Lutheran Church. The church was constructed at the corner of 10th Street and 10th Avenue South in Fargo. In the late 1950s, Olivet Lutheran Church launched a building fund to secure property and begin construction on a permanent home at 1330 South University Drive, Fargo.

Olivet is a living, beating heart of faith; a community of believers assembled together on the solid rock foundation of Jesus Christ. For decades to come, Olivet’s doors will be open to the community it has been called to serve. The table is prepared. You are welcome here.

Tree of Life

In 2001, Olivet commissioned artist David J. Hetland to design the Tree of Life artwork as a permanent work of chanel art. The Tree of Life is a stylized olive tree rising from the chancel platform, with gnarled roots anchored in and emerging from the spaces between the bricks.
