Sundays, 9:30 a.m. or Wednesdays, 5:45 p.m.
This 50-minute, PreK-5th grade educational ministry is held on both Sundays and Wednesdays with identical lessons so you can choose which works best for your family. We use Bible stories, scripture, music, performances, arts and crafts and relationship building as a way to form relationships with Jesus and each other. We follow the lectionary calendar so your child is hearing about the same lesson each week as we hear in worship.
Vacation bible School
Vacation Bible School is four days of fun in the beginning of the summer. Each day consists of music, stories, outdoor recreation, snack and we end the day with a dance party! We love to see the relationships the younger kids form with their adult and student leaders.
3rd, 4th, 5th grade confirmation
The beginning of your child's confirmation journey at Olivet begins with an Introduction to the Bible class held in September for 3rd graders. Bibles will be presented to your child in worship on a Sunday or Wednesday in September. In 4th grade, the children will learn about the Gospel of Mark. Parents and students do a month-long devotion together. 5th grade students will come together three times during Lent to learn about Holy Communion. These classes are held in conjunction with their regular Sunday/Wednesday school times but take a deeper dive into their faith as they prepare to begin regular Confirmation in 6th grade.
First Communion Classes
Held during Lent
First Communion classes are for children and their families to help them explore Holy Communion and prepare for First Communion. Olivet welcomes all ages to receive communion for the first time after pastoral instruction with their parents. These classes are open to all children. You may decide whether or not your child is ready. Two classes will be held during Lent and they will receive First Communion on Maundy Thursday.
Guardian Angel Program
At Olivet, we have a special program just for 2nd graders. It's our Guardian Angel program. Sometime during the year, you may be called to serve as a Guardian Angel. A Guardian Angel is a special friend to a baby who is baptized at Olivet. You are asked to be a friend to the baby and also to pray for them. This is a wonderful way to connect youth with a baby in our congregation, and form a relationship to last for years.
Music is offered weekly during Sunday/Wednesday School for students in PreK-5th grade. The time is spent singing traditional and contemporary church songs, and preparing for special performances in worship, at the Christmas Program, and on Mother’s Day. We also offer additional choirs (Cherub and Joy Choirs) for those who would like more singing opportunities. Cherub Choir is for those in K-3rd grade and Joy Choir is for 4th-8th graders. Cherub & Joy choirs practice weekly and sing in worship multiple times throughout the year.
Your child is welcome to join us any time. If you have questions about any of our children's programming, please contact Michelle Elness at email@example.com or by calling (701) 235-6603
